Happy Birthday, portsmouthpoint.blogspot.co.uk!

Posted on 3:59 PM by Unknown
by Daniel Rollins,

Today is the anniversary of our first regular post on the Portsmouth Point blog. A year ago today we posted Julia Alsop's interesting piece on the Ancient Philosopher, Thales. So now I will use this anniversary to look back at how the blog has developed and grown over the past year.

One of the most interesting things about running a blog are statistics, most blog providers show you them and Blogger (our one) is no exception so here are interesting and sometimes bizarre highlights from the stats page:

At the time of writing the blog has had 74,396 pageviews. We have grown from having only 385 pageviews last February to 10,042 pageviews last month (see Figure 1)

Top 3 referring sites: 1. http://www.facebook.com/
                                2. http://www.pgs.org.uk/
                                3. http://www.google.com/search

Top 5 countries (by number of pageviews):
United Kingdom
United States
Russia
Germany
France
(Special mention to the people in Iran who visited us a few times)

Search engines occasionally point people our way; here are some of the more bizarre things that Google decided we would be able to provide information for:
"Make off like speedy gonzales"
"titian diana and actaeon"
"angry chuck norris"
"boris johnson funny"
"shrek donkey baby"

Here are the most popular posts for some sections:

Drama: Ellie Burr-Lonnen's review of "The Producers",.
Travel: Lucy Cole's account of her travels to Granada, Spain,
Psychology: "Is Lack of Sleep a Problem for PGS Pupils?" by Hattie Gould and Annie Materna
Science: Ed Harding explains the Higgs Boson,
Photography: Micha Oates' Guide to Lomography
Sport: How to inflict pain on Spain by Ben Willcocks

And the all-time most popular post: Why (Maths Says) I Will Never Get a Girlfriend by Charlie Albuery

Finally, some of my personal favorites:

Melissa Smith's post on the Death Penalty
Michael Roderick against the Fanatics
'Bram Stoker's Fifty Shades of Dorian Gray' by Gregory Walton-Green:

Congratulations and thank you to all of our contributors. The blog could only have been this successful with your hard work and great articles!
